Why YOU Won’t Succeed in 2013
Yes, you read that right. 99% of you won’t be as successful as you would like in 2013. Why? Because you simply don’t want it bad enough. As someone in the online advertising business, I see it every single day. Those who want to make 6 figures and be their own boss. It’s everyone’s dream, right? When it comes time to take action, however, everyone seems to make excuses. Here are some of the most common excuses I’ve heard and how to combat those excuses for your own growth.
“I don’t have the time”
Nobody thinks they have the time, but the difference between those who are successful and those who aren’t is that successful people will make the time. Most people find at least an hour a day of TV time. Try putting down the remote and focusing on what will make you reach your goals.
“I already work another job”
Now this ties in with the first excuse as well. Most people want to make more money, be their own boss, etc. I’m not saying quit your 9-5 and go right at your passion, but consider spending your “down time” to work towards being your own boss so that you CAN quit that 9-5.
“There’s too much competition”
I’m surprised every time I hear this one. People actually think because there is existing competition, that they can’t be successful. That is the farthest thing from the truth. If there are multiple successful businesses in the niche you are thinking about going in, chances are it’s because that niche is PROFITABLE. Take notes on what these successful companies are doing (and aren’t doing as well) to get a leg up on them.
“I’m just not motivated enough”
There are a lot of people who want to be successful, but they simply don’t want it bad enough. Not everyone was born with that burning desire, in fact, most people have to find what drives them through life experiences. My recommendation? Start writing down goals and keeping a notepad in front of you at your desk. You’ll find yourself not only writing down your goals, but also motivational quotes, motivational items in your life, daily to-do’s, etc.
Think about it. There are millions of people in this world. I can guarantee you right now while you’re thinking about your goals (or lack there of), there is another person out there chasing after them with all they’ve got. When I made the decision to start really chasing my goals, I worked my ass off and made no excuses. I was going to school from 7 AM until 2 PM and then coming right home to work on my passion (my online business). It wasn’t uncommon for me to be at my computer until 2 or 3 in the morning if that’s what it took. Here are a couple simple steps you can take to get on the right path:
- Research your competitors- Find out what they’re doing right, and also what they can improve on. Use this to your advantage.
- Outwork your competition- Sure they might already be successful, but many people also get comfortable when they hit success. Take advantage of this and outwork them.
- Find your passion and stay motivated- Again, keep that notepad handy. To this day I still use mine as an essential daily tool.
- Sacrifice- Be willing to sacrifice something you enjoy or want to do so that you can reap the rewards from spending that time on your passion.
